Cosmetic options for these clamps.

I know there have been discussions to the effect that re-chroming does not last on exhuast pipe clamps - never mind the cost.
I am undecided when it comes to the replacement exhuast - the Delkevic comes with SS I think so I would not need to restore them.
The original four pipe system is not completely out of the equation as yet. 

Is there a coating finish that can stand the heat that works without running into treble figure costs?

The problem Ted is the surface finish on those clamps. No matter what coating you apply the rough finish means that unless the coating is unusually thick the rough spots will break the surface of the coating, that allows water access and that means rust, in a relatively short time they’ll look as bad as they were before you started.

I’m experimenting with grinding the rough surface off and then either chroming or ceramic coating them in a chrome like finish. However, it’s time consuming and boring to prep the clamps.

However that’s almost free to do and the ceramic finish isn’t very expensive, about £5-10 per clamp.

Delkevic is far cheaper but it’s nowhere near as attractive as the 4 into 4 system, you pays yer money and takes yer choice.

It's ironic Ken back in the late 1970's I thought the Honda four pipe shape was really dated, I can see why folk went for 4 into 1 systems.
Today I like the old original four pipe system.

For now I might just settle for some paint so they do not rust in storage!

Ted,

my clamps looked similar condition to yours, I cleaned them up and used a small touch up brush to paint between the fins only.

I used aerosol Dupli Color Supertherm 800c silver paint, it cured when the engine heated up and still looks OK now about 5 years later.

Of course it's not concours finish, you'll need to buy new clamps for that...

The clamps on my 650 are aluminium, I was hoping to use a set to replace my rusty 550 ones, but they are a bigger diameter.

I wonder if there are an aluminium set off a different model that would fit the 550?

Ted, I have had a set Cerakoted in a bright silver. It will be a little while before they can be fitted (still using one hand at the mo!!) so I will not know how they stand up to the high temp for a bit!

Not expensive to have rechromed at Prestige as they simply strip blast and chrome.Not much polishing involved.
