1974 cb550 left side cover
« on: November 07, 2023, 10:59:15 AM »
Hi all, just by chance does anyone have a left side cover, will purchase a repro one if not. In the process of repairing right side one at the minute so might need two, but hoping it will be OK. Also anyone on here bought a repro one?

Haven't got a side panel Johnny but the aftermarket ones on Ebay made by Martyn at LPM panels, or RIM UK as he trades now, are excellent. We've purchased about 20
sets from him for Honda fours, the last set only last week.

Contacted Martyn at LPM Plastics and he doesn’t do ones for the 550k not for my model at least. Can get them from CMS though. Will try DS too.

I did wonder Bryan but didn’t want to debate it with the seller. Thanks for that.

Anyone near you Johnny that owns a 500 four? if so pop over and borrow one to test fit.

I'm with Bryan on this one, I'm 99% sure the panels are the same as the 500 four up to 550K2, after that they did change.

Yes, Bryan is correct as its a 500/4 frame. Don't forget, Martyn doesn't know anything about these bikes, or Kawazaki, or Yamaha etc, he just manufactures panels.

Thanks all for that, no one near with a 500 that I know about Ken. Think I’ll take a chance and order.

Hi Johnny,
You could pm Hubert over on Lismore (honda enthusiast on here). He might do a rubbing of the mounts and some detailed pics and measurements for you.  He's another one who might come along if we ever get chance of a meet up.

There is good info and piccies in the faq here

CB550 Right Side Covers   CB550 Left Side Covers   CB550 Left Side Covers
The left cover mountings are the same for all the 500-550s all years. Swap around as you chose. The right covers differ in mounting at the top forward mount position where the mount tab is rotated 90 degrees. The 390 and 404 covers swap among frames F style and late K model, but not with the earlier K model 323 frames/covers.
