First and Worst
« on: August 14, 2010, 04:33:32 PM »
Hi Folks,

What was your first motorcycle and what was your Worst motorcyle .........................

My first was a Yamaha FS1E, I went all over the place on that bike,  Darley Moor,Oulton Park, even to the I.O.M TT Races, all that ever happened to that bike was the plug would whisker up. If you decoked the exhaust baffle, head and barrel at regular times it ran sweet.

My worst was any black bike ........ black was/is an unlucky colour for me on a bike :-[ I had a new (Black) RS 250 Honda and the valve guides were knackered after 500 miles. When the engine was hot after a run, if you could not start it on the first or second attempt, then sweaty times were ahead... lots of bump starting, it could be a Bstard to start.

COLIN.

First:
CB125S (Blue) - I loved that bike but had to swap it for something bigger to handle the Bedford - Brighton trips when I went to Uni (bought a CB175)

Worst:
Shared a CB250G5 with my room-mate at Uni. It was a dog. Spent more time in bits than running, devoured pistons and rings, handled like a dog (when it was running)

First, kawasaki kh125, 2 stroke commuter was excellent handling (modest) power etc. A right hoot.
Worst, same again, same bike, some so called friend attempted a prank but just wound up breaking the oil feed pipe so it ended up siezed next time I took it out. Hasn't ever been reliable since then, I do periodically get its engine rebuilt but at
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

First motorcycle (as opposed to first moped) was a 1972 Honda CB125S.

Worst is a toss up between a CB250 G5 which pissed oil out of the cam cover and a CB350 K4.

The K4 was a lovely bike but it used to chew cam chain tensioners like they were going out of fashion.

The speedo used to go backwards when the engine was revving. Had to close the throttle and pull the clutch in to find out how fast I was really going!

OK just to show me age

First, RE Crusader 250 bought in bits with a big end gone, rebuilt many times when assorted things broke or fell off, travelled 1,000 miles and even "chopped" it at the end.

Worst:- From cost point Triumph T150 bought as a wreck to turn into a racing Kneeler but never ran despite lodsa money wasted.

From heartache point The Honda No 36 in avatar bought for me by my then Gilfriend, now wife, in the States for my 50th and trashed by some little ar*ehole who set fire to it

From reliability CB750F2 that kept needing loadsa work, including valve guides at 25,000, just a bad one ---Even Honda do the occasional one

An Ajs 250 14csr  with loads of chrome was my first and worst bike.It snapped crankshafts for fun sometimes after only 10 miles. Something to do with it being a three piece bolt up crank. In the design they didn't undercut the shoulder of the bigend pin to stress relieve it so they just used to sheer off. I wasn't all that disappointed when i bent the frame a little trying to jump a ditch(not intentionally),there was this bird you see on the side of the road at a bus stop. Had to look didn't I !!!!!!
Go on you know you want to

My first bike was a CB125S as explained elsewhere on this forum.

Don't think i've had a 'worst' bike. I bought a Honda XL250SA in bits from a friend as a basket case for

First bike was a BSA D7 Bantam, EFM 115C, very distinctive noise, it taught me a lot.

Worst bike, can't really think of one as they all eventually grew on me !

Puch MS50D. Now that rings a bell.

That was my first legal moped, followed by an FS1E which is what I wanted all along.

My first bike was a 1969 Yamaha CS3 200 twin which I rebuilt and rode around fields etc.

My worst bike was my first road bike, a Yamaha FS1E which kept fouling plugs, wrecking pistons, needing constant decoking and generally being underpowered and slow.  I used one throttle position, i.e fully open and went huge distances, slowly.  It amuses me how these bikes sell for disproportionate amounts on ebay at the moment.  I rode a Honda C50 'Chicken Chaser' at one point and it was as fast, just not as 'cool' looking as the FSIE and I thought it was in fact a better bike.  (A kind policeman later pointed out that it was not stricly legal to ride a C50 at sixteen)

I was glad when I was became seventeen and could get something bigger, a CB125S, which was superb.

Best bike has to be my 500/4 which I have been using since 1995.

My first bike was a 1977 AP50 Suzuki, did 13k miles on it between my sixteenth and seventeenth birthdays, fantastic fun. The worst bike I ever owned was a GSX1100F Suzuki that I bought I think in 1989 which must go down as the worst bike that Suzuki ever made. It was softer than soft and no fun at all a GSX motor with mild cams and poor performance, the only positive thing that I can remember about it was it's powered fairing screen. I can remember riding along watching it go up and down in the rain!.

A Honda CD 175 (1969) Bought it in 1974 age 17. Had it for 2 years and covered 20,000 miles, went out on it in all weather. Large number of repairs, but it did not let me down...the 'sloper'? engine was a doddle to remone from the bike.
Worst: Yamaha XT 500 a pig to start
