David Silver Daytona Electronic Ignition Kit

Hello all. Before I go back to Silver’s and ask for clarification, has anyone else fitted the Daytona ignition kit? The reason I ask is that it states in the instructions that on set up, you should connect the black wire to the rear brake switch feed. I’m assuming this is to provide a 12v earthed supply.
However it didn’t state whether this needs to be disconnected and then connected to an earth or something else.
Any ideas?

Not sure what you mean by a 12 volt earthed supply?

Reads like an oxymoron.

It is a 12v pos dc supply to the electronic bits, the earth is via the plate and crankcase

The blue and yellow wires from the ignition plate route to each of the coils; I assume there is a 12v supply running from the kill switch to the other side of each coil?
The reason I ask is that I need to build a loom from scratch for a track bike using a basic wiring circuit. No lights, starter, etc.

Yes, as you state. All coil (think its all  :) ) have a positive feed and usually switched to cut ignition when necessary. This "fills" the coil all the time the earth is connected via the timing device (points or electronic) to accumulate energy in the coil. Removing that earth route (open circuit) then causes the stored energy to "escape" via the HT line to give us sparks.

To clarify, points ignition usually will have no power supply as the points are just mechanically moved switches to earth, simple as that.

In comparison, most electronics will need a positive supply ( usually switched via ignition/kill switch) to enable their functioning.  The electronics are then toggling the coil route to earth without that mechanical points interface.

Thanks all, very much appreciated. I’m validating the wiring diagram I have produced and the 12v supply (oxymoron deleted 🤓) to the electronic ignition was the final piece I was scratching my head over.
