I'm having a tidy up in my loft - my 400 came with  a newish Motad exhuast system. The PO gave me the old 400 front pipe in case I wanted to revert it to original.

There are no holes in the original front pipe but the chrome has gone particularly on the rear of number three down pipe with one down pipe slighly scuffed/damaged numer 4 pipe. (see pics)

Is this front pipe of any use to a member here or do I put it out for our local Albanian scrap collectors ?

Ted, don't know if you are a member of the VMCC, but they have a very good adverts section in their monthly journal. Under 40 words no charge!  I've sold a few bits through them, less hassle than fleabay and you are dealing with genuine users/owners.  They look far too good to scrap, that would be a crime.

For gods sake Ted do not throw those away, if no one else wants them I’ll take them, clean them up, get rid of the rust and scratches and get them ceramic coated in chrome finish

I was going to keep them so come the day when the 400 has to go the I would pass the pipes on or Wendy would. The small damage to number four pipe means they will never look perfect. I'm hoping that a member who is restoring a 400 might find them useful.

If there are no 400 owner/takers I might just keep them in the loft.

I could remove the damage to the number 4 pipe Ted, if I can so can you. Use the dark green flap wheels and your Dremel. It will remove the chrome as well though so clean up the rest with the red wheels so as to remove all the rust etc then get it ceramic coated, either chrome or satin black.

Would it not need heat and an internal pipe spring to remove the dent?

would be interested to know how to remove a dent in a front pipe, as to the best of my knowledge they were double skinned. Well done Ted for re-homing them!

My friend Graham Curtis has refurbished a few sets to lovely re-chromed condition. He even made a resin press tool to make repair pressings to replace the bottom half of the collector box. I think on dents he used some kind of high temperature braze to fill the dents, that is compatible with the chroming process and the chrome doesn't peel when it gets really hot. Good on you Ted for not binning them and offering on here.

As for the dent, I’m not saying it can be removed without some specialist work, more that it can be blended in, just remove the scratches and flatten the surface, when you get it either rechromed or ceramic coated the damage should be almost unnoticeable.
