1978 CB550 K4 PARTS
« on: January 20, 2024, 06:50:38 PM »
Hi,
I haven't got my bike that long and am giving it the once over.

The air box element ( part no. 17352374003) is missing.
I can't find this part anywhere on-line as it seems to be discontinued with no alternative.
Can anyone advise? can these be homemade etc?

Vent the engine to atmosphere and ditch the system. Fit the Cb500 air filter next service.

Yeah, the air filter is very oily!
Would changing systems affect the carb set up?

Not really, it was fitted to comply with the US market laws on emissions, mainly for the California market.

Thanks, I assume you have to block up the tube on the airbox that the hose from engine vent fitted on to?

If you're still using the 550 air filter yes, otherwise there is unfiltered air going into the engine intake. If you use a 500 air filter then remove the snorkel part inside the airbox and you can leave the pipe unblocked then, it's irrelevant. You may have to put something under the 500 filter as I believe the air filter housing is taller on the 550.
