How do I value a Maicoletta Scooter?
« on: February 10, 2024, 11:04:02 PM »
A bike has come up for sale a restored Maico but how on  earth do I work out it's  actual value when there are so few on the market?
It's up for offers over £4,000 looks very tidy in the photo - that said it's not popular on the used market like the 400 for example. Fewer nostalgic owners too as there were not many in the UK.

Over on kleinanzeingen.de (in Germany) there's currently three listed for sale.
Asking price around 3000 euros.

Hope that helps

Thanks Skoti  that's helpful interestingly the three listed do not appear to be standard colour schemes.
I've seen some sold at auction with a few being pulled out before the sale dates.
I'm waiting for some detailed information from the one in the UK.
I'm always confused by sellers who say offers over £4,000 it's like a baseline auction reserve. Be interesting to see just how thorough the restoration has been when he sends me some photos.

Join the Facebook group and ask there.  Or is it the one that is currently for sale at offers over £4000

It actually looks quite nice. Would the what looks like Hammerite finish on the dash be a factory finish back then .

If its as good under the panels it's got to be worth a view. Did you notice someone had sent a PM about it

I have sent him a PM he did not do the restoration himself although he has restored Maicos he has owned the bike for 10 years.
It will be interesting to see if he has some photos from when it was done originally.

Just looked at the Facebook page out of interest. Not a scooter man personally but like the chunkiness "butch"  look of that.
One day I'll have the time to restore it, not just talk and dream....

When I bought mine as a teenager it was a sort of accidental purchase.

I went to Motorama in Chesterfield that was part of the old Bocklehurst Motor Group and bought an Ariel Square Four Combination - after riding less than 5 miles towards home I returned to the dealer as I just found it too difficut to control especially the steering wobble.  If I spent more money they would refund me on the Ariel so I spent another £20 and bought a Maicoletta 250cc in Black & Yellow.

The Maico & the Heinkells were the RR of scooters but dirt cheap used as the market volume was Vespa & Lambretta.
