DSS Cylinder Head Gaskets
« on: February 17, 2024, 11:38:25 AM »
Has anyone purchased a 400/4 cylinder head gasket from DSS recently? He lists two types, one 'genuine Honda' for £62.98 and another pattern gasket for £24.95. I gave him a call earlier to ask what brand the pattern gasket is but they couldn't tell me, all he said was it was made in Taiwan. It is unlikely to be Athena as they are in the region of £50 and are Italian. I asked if the Honda genuine item was stamped as Honda (although I knew it wouldn't be as Honda didn't make their own gaskets). Again he couldn't tell me as the genuine items are in their US warehouse but doid say they would be stamped with the Honda part number. This means nothing really, just becuase it has a honda part number does not mean it is genuine Honda but maybe OEM and we all know what that could mean!

So, has anyone bought a head gasket recently from DSS, both 'genuine' and pattern and does the pattern one give any problems?

I would really like a High Level/NE brand head gasket but nobody appears to sell them as a seperate item, only as part of a full gasket set.

How about the one Yamiya sells Dave .. worth asking Trigger & Julie  if they  know if they are good or not. They don't usually sell rubbish though.

That looks like a good deal Ash. It resembles a genuine Honda gasket as well.

That is the gasket set I have right here, my bike goes in for a rebuild on Monday, I'll let you know how they hold up! I got mine from a well respected source (Scooter & Bikes) on Ebay for £30.00, they are currently sold out. Same thing is £58.00 at DSS, so did I get a bargain or is DSS over priced?

Not sure why - thought it was all about the gasket thickness being correct otherwise O rings either did not seal or were over squashed.

Just change the size of the O rings to accommodate the gasket thickness Ted.

No worries ... did you get the primary damping rubbers Dave, as Yamiya seem to have stock now.

Yes thanks Ash I got some genuine Honda items for a bargain price of £6.50 each. Comparing them to the old ones I'm glad I am changing them, they are rock hard!

OK Dave just let me know this week if possible if there is anything else you need from Yamiya in addition to the head gasket.

I remember changing my damper rubbers when the bike was only 10 years old and they were rock hard too (well they had developed  a hard crust on the outside surfaces).

Thanks Ash, I think all I need is the head gasket. I looked through the tressure section, some nice parts in there although most are sold out!
I placed a big order with DSS this morning, hopefully that's the last of the big parts now, or at least I hope it is ???

Let me know the P&P and I'll arrange the payment.
Thanks again for all your help and guidance 👍
