CB400F Throttle cable A & B lengths

Does anyone know the CB400F Throttle cable A & B lengths please?

Have some similar cables mixed up (eg CB250/360G5) and I need to identify which are indeed for the 400F

Didnt the honda cables have the middle part number on them Ash

Only markings are TSK and Made in Japan Bryan. I think one is deffo Genuine but need to work out if for a 400F Anyone else can measure one for me please.

Honda part numbers:
Throttle Cable A - Pull - 17910-377-000
Throttle Cable B - Push - 17920-377-000

35.25" Total Length - 31.25" Inner Housing - 4" Slack
M10 Throttle side thread in
Throttle side cable stop = 6mm Diameter x 7mm Wide
Carburetor side cable stop = 6mm Diameter x 10.25mm Wide
In line carburetor side cable adjuster
M6 cable adjuster on the carburetor side.

Throttle Cable B - Push
36" Total Length - 32.25" Inner Housing - 3.75" Slack
M12 Throttle side thread in
Throttle side cable stop = 6mm Diameter x 7mm Wide
Carburetor side cable stop = 6mm Diameter x 10.25mm Wide
M6 cable adjuster on the carburetor side.

Fits Honda:
CB400F Super Sport - 1975-1976 (Does not fit 1977 model with stock handlebars)

Aren't the throttle and the carburettor at the same end of the cable?

The twistgrip is typically at the other end.

I ordered both cables from DSS Ash. They are still in their wrapping although I don't know what make they are and obviously I haven't tried them on the bike but I can unwrap them tomorrow, give them a measure and let you know the lengths if this helps?

That would be great Dave as DS claims his are made by the OEM supplier to Honda.

I bought my two 400 cables from DS - they fitted perfectly.

DS claims TSK are the oem supplier to Honda and the ones i have had have always fitted, i am sure the genuine spare had the modle number on the cable but tsk would not be allowed to do that

Here you go Ash, these are the measurements from the two new cables I received from DSS last week;

DSS Pattern Cable Numbers;

Japan Quality Washo Co. LTD (made in Japan) Cable B – Push, Part No.17920-377-000

Dimensions;

Throttle Cable A – Pull
35.5” Total Length – 32.25” Inner Housing  - 4” Slack
M12 Throttle side thread in
Throttle side cable = 6mm Diameter x 7mm Wide
Carburettor side cable stop =6mm Diameter x 10mm Wide
In line carburettor side cable adjuster
2 x 6mm cable adjuster nuts on the carburettor side

Throttle Cable B – Push
36” Total Length -  32.75” Inner Housing – 3.5” Slack
M12 Throttle side thread in
Throttle side cable stop  = 6mm x 6.5mm Wide
Carburettor side cable stop = 6mm Diameter x 10mm Wide
M6 cable adjuster nut on the carburettor side with ‘U’ Shaped flanged washer on engine side .

You will notice there are some slight variations between the cable sizes given by 4 into 1 especially the throttle side thread in on the pull cable which on the new cable is not M10 but M12 (maybe this is why the M10 doesnt fit the 1977 models?).

At least the above should give you an idea what you have.

Even though I have quite a few NOS looking cables they all seem longer than those dimensions so possibly off a 250G5

I was therefore just about to order the DS ones which he claims are OEM and the only difference between his and Honda is the price.
BUT I can't see a spring on the DS opening one. I always thought that both cables had the spring fitted.

Bit confused as I have seen a NOS in bag genuine one for sale with no spring on the throttle opening cable but Part Book deffo shows one fitted.

I can't see any spring on the parts book pics just a sectional view of the outer cable without the black outer layer ? 

I can't recall any springs in my old original cables or the DS replacements I always aasumed the return spring(s) on the throttle system were strong enough.

Here you go Ted ! Protection springs I guess. I think the DS push 'B' cable has one fitted but not the other 'A' one.

I did not think they were any springs  on the throttle cable itself - I thought that was a sectional representation of the cable - I live and learn Ash assuming you are right - I bow to your experience.

The spring if fitted between the quadrant & the adjuster would serve no real purpose  it would just squash up and serve no purpose - am I missing something here or is it acting as an outer cable buffer?
