welcome to the site, hard to say what might be long without pics or seeing  but i.d start with 1, makeing shure points or electronic ignition is spot on, 2nd, know its a trifle but check plugs for correct setting and grade, 3, clean and ballance carbs........ once those are done  then you can deduce if any niggle probs from electrics etc etc ...........

Hi, thanks for the reply.  Have done the timing, flushed and balanced the carbs and put new sparks in with the right gaps, so thats all tickety boo.

As far as the electrics go, its just some bits and pieces, indicators not flashing/staying on, horn not working, and some wires have their ends cut off completely!  More recently the starter is playing up.  It kick starts fine, and the battery is fully charged, but I just get the clicking from the solenoid when pressing the starter button.  Hey ho, just have to do some Columbo on it in the wee late hours.

indicators rarely flash without engine running and charging circuit in good order.

clicking is normaly (in usual order)

Battery not fully charged or duff
Bad earth contact
Bad solenoid
bad sterter/brushes(VERY RARE but possible)

I have had problems with starter solenoids. If the heavy duty contacts inside have corroded the power from the battery will not be bridged across to the starter motor. Best way to test is to put an Ohms meter across the big terminals of the solenoid, then apply 12vdc to the smaller wires. There should be a click or two, & if there's no resistance reading or deflection then the contacts are shot. The unit is relatively easy to open, the contacts are easy to dress down with a small needle file, & is easy to reassemble.

Thanks Yoshi, might give that a bash whilst the missus is watching the soaps!

Hi Steve, saw your other post and am liking the work you have had done on the frame, I might touch base you with you to find out where you had it done and costs.
