Will it fix?
« on: March 06, 2024, 09:10:21 PM »
Going to fit a new seal in this today but dissapointed to find this tacho drive broken. What’s the chances of a repair? Nothing to lose.

I don't know,

I would clean both joint surfaces with brake cleaner,

Use a good adhesive, something that lists metal,

Apply to break as per instructions,

Leave in a warm place and see what happens,

There is hardly any load on it,

If it does stick, you might want to reinforce by drilling tiny holes down through the break, fill the holes with glue and push small pins in the holes,

Thanks guys for replies,  I think I might buy a replacement yet as I need one for the other engine anyway, depending what route I go for tacho/speedo set up. So I have nothing to lose by trying a repair.

Hi Johnny,
I'm definitely with John Webley on that one.  Some pinned reinforcement if there's space and original Araldite - not rapid version.  Leave to harden as said, somewhere warm for a few days (and then go back and collect the pieces 🙈). No, seriously it's worth a try.

Just for info, I’m currently looking into getting some made, we’ve a blank being offered soon from a pattern one that was submitted to a chsp abwhilevago. Not sure on time lines but it sounds promising.

Just so you know.

Yes thanks Ian, it’s a good shout indeed from John. I think I might even have some of that stuff, I’ll check to see if it is the rapid stuff or not. Thanks

Thanks Roo. That’s interesting, especially if they can make them for less than £100. Keep me posted!
