All great suggestions Johnny especially if Roo's getting some made.
If you send the part to me I could take it to Brian, the guy who does alloy welding for me. He may be able to weld it although obviously as it's cast there will be no guarantee it will be successful and you may get a blob of alloy in return but if all else fails and you need it urgently there's nothing to loose.
I'm going over to Brian in the next few weeks to get a part for the poxy Triton altered.

I'm a Douglas Adams fan - never really got into Star Trek Films - the first TV series was my era.

Soz bout that, hurriedly typing whilst dashing about

Soon as I know I’ll let you know, not sure yet but he’s doing one in brass first to see if it’s doable rather than casting. Not sure if it’s economical or not but I’ve got one lurking somewhere if you need one, I’ll have a look later as in the shed of dreams putting the thermostat on the VFR.

I'd favour this as most likely to succeed, soak in solvent first then ultrasonic clean would have good chance of cleaning it and avoid contaminated structure to weld.
Always a risk of course until the welder can attempt decent trial.
Can be done, worthwhile to at least have a go.

Manufacturing one, Duralamin would be my first choice from a machining and final materials specification.

Reminds me of the old translation joke.

If you translate the expression "Out of sight - out of mind" into Russian then have the Russian translation changed back into English you end up with "Disappearing Lunatic".

Thanks all for advice regarding repair. Nigel good advice on cleaning etc, unfortunately I don’t have an ultrasonic cleaner but will give it a good clean with brush and maybe acetone or thinners.
But I must add that I have a used one on the way thanks to NJ AND T. Takes the pressure off the repair job, but will still be perusing a repair on the broken one.

What about the low temp aluminium brazing rods on eBay?

I’ve used them before and they are pretty good.

That’s a good shout Steve, I actually bought some of them a year or so ago but haven’t used them still. There’s probably not many degrees separating melting the repair rods and melting the housing though.😳

It's the degree of fear Johnny. Oh I'll give it a little bit more heat.......pop😢.
Worth a try though if you have them anyway and you have a spare on the way and hopefully Roo will go into full mass production with his new ones👍
