Loop on footrest

What does that loop on the right footrest assembly actually do?  :-\

Are you talking about the riders footrest that stays up to enable the kickstart to be used?
Isn't the loop part of the spring mechanism that holds it up?

Ah that bit, no idea except when fitted  it has the look of a securing eye used during production, transit or in transit crate rather than using a stand.
