« on: April 09, 2024, 12:16:43 AM »

It’s for Mejima, the 550,  summers coming on and I’ve finally ‘got round to it’ so carbs on the bench and tuning imminent.

I’m struggling to get any this side of the Atlantic and deffo not a set of 4 of each. Stupidly I forgot to get them whilst over in the states last time I was there………..like you do!

Thanks all.

Considered resizing some ?

Reaming is really accurate to finish the bore in brass.

That’s right Bryan, they simply aren’t available. I’ve mss as bagged to cobble a set of #98’s via Germany, Lithuania and one from France at great expense and their standards!

If you have mate that  would be bloody fantastic

If they were cheap to start with Nige, I’d invest in a set of reamer’s but for the possible 4 I MIGHT have to do is a bit of an investment I don’t need at the min. Good shout though, hadn’t even considered it tbh.

Are there any engineering shops close to you Roo that could ream them for you? I'll be taking a trip to the engineering shop I use soon and I could ask them if you like (cheap postage for four tiny jets!). Although £39 for the set of reamers is probably cheaper than taking them to an engineering shop (and you get another tool for the toolbox!).

Yeah, that’s them but struggling to find #100’s for some reason.
Dave, although another tool in the tool chest is all sooper dooper and that, it’s cost prohibitive for me mate on what I need to achieve so as much as I want them being as much of a magpie as I ever was, I’ll keep chasing the jets for now, Bryan said he may have some kicking about so fingers crossed n all that.

Thanks for all the input fella’s appreciate it

The type of place that would do them to spec is a clock repair business, it's sized right in their trade and experience.

They could likely and easily manufacture a set to spec too from simple brass stock in a small collet lathe. They're often making bushes (very similar in size) to repair old clock plates that have worn spindle holes. All reamed to accurate size in matching the tight tolerance needed.

Set of four aren't really much work in total labour time.

Could be an avenue to explore, perhaps if someone else needed some decent quality too.

Matt Harrington is a clock restorer and has all the gear to do microscopic twiddles, that’s a good shout, I’m due down to have a yap n a brew so I’ll mention it to him. Good thinking Nige

A bit of a long shot but they were used in Honda mowers. Could be worth a call as mowers are taken in every spring for a service because they won't start.
