plastic seat
« on: March 07, 2011, 06:51:10 PM »
Anyone bought one of those plastic base seats from Silvers..??  I have and it fits like crap. I have decided to modify it by removing the rubber bung supports from my old seat and drilling the plastic base to suit. I will then drill the seat bracket/catch to sit over the bosses rather than on top of them.
As supplied it wobbles all over the place...!!  What have you done..?? The other thing is there is no place for my plastic wallet...I want to fit that back on aswell.

my old seat base is very bad....the bike lived outside for at least 10 years with spilt leaky covers. The whole thing is in a pretty poor state with alot of it missing all down the hinge side. I thought this would be just a bolt on job....no ffing chance. I've modded it and fitted my old rubbers etc....its alot better but still a poor fit around the tank. My old original was a good solid fit everywhere.....annoying. Its bloody fibreglass aswell - not plastic. If I'd known that I wouldn't have bothered. I'm spending all night now p*ssing about with a poxy seat.  :( ::) :-\ ;D

I bought one from Dave Silver but it was such a poor fit I sent it back and refurbished my old one. There is a base and foam going on ebay which looks like it would clean up.

I cant send it back now....Ive made big holes all over it. Most of the cheapo rubbers just pulled off the new seat with a soft tug. Its a shame really because some effort has gone in to making the dammed thing, it only required a final bit of care to make sure it was trimmed up and fitted correctly, and then some decent rubbers used instead of the pop riveted on cupboard door stops - that fall off if you touch them.

Its also missing the Honda on the back...I'm going to have to paint that on myself which I'm not keen on  doing but will do as It looks wrong without it.

Worst was my 550k3 cover from M&P - a bit of vinyl with a line of stitching at the front. I can and have done better ones from vinyl bought from the local fabric shop  for

I've now got it to mechanically fit everywhere properly except around the back of the tank. The base has been trimmed badly at the front and leaves a gap that looks awful. Its not even the same on each side. Theres nothing else for it, I'm going to have to unglue it and build up the front edge of the base to what it should be. Theres enough material its just wether it unglues without damage. I can use the small leading edge trim off my original seat as a guide as its gone solid in the perfect shape.
