Help! - Rear Suspension Frame Mount
« on: March 29, 2011, 09:33:24 PM »
Help, I could do with some advice - just sheared the mounting threaded stud on the frame where the top of the rear suspension connects. I'm assuming I'll have to drill out, helicoil and fit a new stud/bolt - does that sound right? will it be strong enough? Any advice gratefully received. Cheers

Hi do you still have the post for the shocker to push on ?, if yes then all you have lost is the threaded part ?, you can drill and tap this part all it does is stop the shocker moving sideways, cheers Mick.

I would suggest that you remove whats left of the mount and have another mounting turned up on a lathe and welded in. I did this on my Suzuki GS750 after the previous owner for whatever reason had drilled through the mountings and just put a bolt through. Just drilling and tapping whats currently left of your mount may weaken it considerably.

Cheers
Eric

Thanks for the advice. My local motorcycle frame engineering place has drilled out and fitted a high tensile bolt. According to them, it will be stronger than the other side! lets hope so. Cheers. Pete

Add your location to your profile - then we won't have to ask "where are you?"

A local frame engineering place sounds interesting.
