Bit dim

I took my bike for its first night-ride this evening- Id changed the headlight back to the original last year and not ventured out on it since Jan 11. I was on my way back from Swanley and noticed what I thought was a filament problem- the light kept on flickering in front of me, if you see what I mean- Headlight- or main beam was fine- but when I got back to Maidstone- I could rev the 400 and the headlight dimmed- any ideas? before I start replacing things willy-nilly! are they fed by a differnt fuse line? (I had my fusebox burn out last year leaving me stranded- but replaced it with one from Neil off Ebay)

Sounds like either a bad connection or the regulator box is sticking

The regulator was dismatled as I suspected it was the culprit- but it all belled-out and the shut isnt o/c as its getting hot. the coil also isnt pulling in- not sure what voltage its supposed to operate at? The earth was not exactly tight at the battery- but it is now..
Ive got about 11.5 v at the white wire- that feeds the main-beam. Should I be looking for 12?

Depends on the battery voltage, anything over a 0.25 volt drop is too much

Hi Mike. The white wire feeds the low beam that's connected via the black regulated +12v wire that is connected to the red wire via the ignition switch.

If you wanted the regulator tested I have the test equipment to be able to set it up. I'm only in Bexleyheath but if you're going down to the VJMC on Thursday evening I could talk to you about it there.

Nothing like answering your own old post- This was a knackered battery- once replaced, all problems disappeared- the 35w light singling brightly like a candle in the w........

i was foxed as the battery read over 12v off load and 13. something on 2000 rpm.
