Hi, I'm Alex. Got this '76 CB550F Super Sport a month or two ago, my first bike:

Pretty shabby nick.  Was working OK when i picked it up (years MOT on it).  Managed to squeeze it in my escort van for the journey back (had to remove the passenger seat!).

Doesn't seem to want to idle properly now though,  Guessing it something to do with the carbs?  It's going in for a service so hopefully they'll sort it out.  Looking to mess around with it a bit to get a ratty cafe look, something like these hopefully:

No idea what I'm doing when it comes to the working parts (engine, carbs, gearbox etc), prob get a local garage to see to that. Fairly confident bout the rest including the wiring.  Just need to get moving.  First thing is to sort out:

-rotten rear mudguard
-replace the seat with a single or 1 1/2 unit (do 750 seats fit directly on, same frame?) or just chop down the existing one (seat pan looks a bit knackered to be honest)
-fit some clubmans or similar.

Eventually want:

-to change the dials for smaller ones and remove/move the central indicator/ignition unit
-replace bits and bobs for style reasons (headlight etc)
-straight through exhaust

Want to keep it as a running project though.  Not looking to buy new bits either would prefer to mix and match parts as i like them and use older used stuff.  Not looking for forecourt restoration.

Hi Xander, the 550f looks pretty good to me!  It's a shame you're not getting into the spanner work yourself as it's a great way to get to know your machine inside and out, but to be honest it is expensive initially outfitting a workshop.  I think it's dreadful to hack a classic into a 'cafe racer'... :o  Hope it comes good though, and don't forget - people want the bits that you don't!
