What are these holes in my frame for?

I have a couple of threaded holes in my 550 frame - on the frame spar beneath the mounting points for the coils on the right-hand side. Any one else have them...and know what they are for?


...maybe it's actually a factory special race frame and worth a small fortune....

dunno, but i have them too on 3 frames so not rare!

Was an ignition barrel mounted here on early model cb500's?
