Hi guys, I'm from scotland and near a place called lanark, I'm a mechanic to trade retired now at 50 and spending most of my time with my bikes.

I have a honda cb1000 big one, a blackbird, carb version and just recently bought two american import cb750s, one is a 1974 and the other a 1977, both the model with the oil tank and cap on the outside.

I intend to spend a few months bringing them back to life again, one I would like to cafe but not too sure at the minute.

I don't know a lot about the 750s I was just a boy at that time and could barely purchase the fuel for a bike never mind a 750, but always wanted one.

I am going to have to spend a few hours on here searching to make sure I do the right things to them so they are not spoiled. the handle bars are wrong on them both for the uk, the paint has been changed and can't find a paint code, one has a king and queen seat ffs, both need chains and sprockets, the exhausts have a couple of holes in them, they both need painting and if colour is not on a sticker somewhere then they are getting the most popular colour. One has the rev counter cable missing and a plug fitted to the head for some reason, and so the list goes on.

Not sure where to start to be honest.

The 77 depends on the model, is it a black engine? There are no colour codes on the bikes and even on the later ones it means nothing to a paint man, only Honda as they are not "standard" codes. Most of the early ones were 3 pack candies by the way.

Pictures are always nice and help to identify what you have.

Hello david451, sounds like they are going to keep you busy but worth it for a nice ride out.

The chain and sprockets you should be able to fit them with an o-ring chain onto the standard size sprockets if you want to update that area. I think only the last SOHC 750 F2 used o-ring chains but in the next size up 630 this is not required on the older ones though so worth not buying a kit that usually comes with non o-ring.

Paint is certainly available to original type colours via specialist bike painters, I think some of the others on here have experience of this that may help you with views on their stuff.

the engine is all alloy and chrome, they seem to be the model that came after the ones with the vents in the side panels, one has the fuel tap on the right and the other on the left, both the same model, look the same anyway.

If the paint codes can not be linked to the bike then might as well do my first one in a nice blue.

77 could be either an F model (black engine originaly, comstar wheels, twin disc front single disc rear) or a K model (alloy engine in different tune, wire wheels  17" rear with drum brake, single disc front)

Hi Pete

Frame numbers are good for identifying which model you have. Same way the engine number will tell you which motor you have fitted.

I say this because I bought my bike as a wreck at the right price and it turned out to be a K7 that someone had tried to convert into an F2.
