Battery Earth Cable
« on: July 16, 2011, 12:50:50 PM »
Hi
Can anyone tell me where the battery earth cable should be attached to the frame of my 1977 CB750 F1? The previous owner has carefully rubber mounted it thereby apparently insulating the battery from the frame instead of earthing it.
Thanks

From memory it goes to the top rear engine mounting bolt on the RH side(as sat on it). Don't forget to scrape paint off if it has been re-done or you won't get a good earth

Yep, if you are sitting on the bike it is fitted between the engine and the frame plate on the upper rear mounting bolt.
Here's a photo of mine.

thats a nice clean engine, what did you clean your carbs with, I was thinking of using a brass wire brush but you seem to have done a real good job on yours.

The carbs were cleaned with tea/coffee stirrers (from McDonalds), brillo pads, Solvol Autosol, and my Dremel with various wire brushes, however the most effective brush was a non metallic one, which is great for cleaning up alloy parts without scratching. Will try and find the details of it.
Got it, 538 abrasive brush works a treat, not cheap but it works

Here's an in progress photo from years ago when I did them

Hi Bryan, it may not be typical but I just had a quick check of the photos I took when I stripped the bike down and I have replaced it as I found it, note I had the bike from new and this was the first time it has been taken apart.

Thanks for the great information Guys. Didn't think that it should be rubber mounted. ;)
