Hello All!
« on: December 15, 2011, 09:36:13 PM »
Hi all!
Finally after 30 years I have managed to buy myself a CB650z 1981  :D
 MOT tomorrow, fingers crossed..!
Bike is in really good condition with only 7500miles! Been dry stored for many years. Only downside is a 4 into 1 exhaust and a bit of rust on the tank lip.
All tips, knowledge about these bikes would be much appreciated..!
Many thanks,
Steve

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Hope the MOT went well, or had easy fixes only.

Bit cold to be out and about this time of year, rode mine out today and couldn't really tell just how slippery it was then it started sleating so guessed it was quite close to ice.

The wheels are in fab condition! Just spent two days polishing the engine covers. The main casings are quite corroded and will need a refinish which I will do when I completely strip her and get the frame sorted. Just trying to locate one igniter. Bike runs fine (apart from over fueling) but all the black stuff has melted away! Common problem? Main fuse has been replaced with a nail. Apart from that no issues... Fingers crossed!

That looks nice Ste. My brother bought one brand new back in the day.

You can buy potting stuff (for want of the right word :-\) to re-pot the ignitor, don't ask me where, my brother looked into it. If your ignitor is still working I'd go that route.

Had a quick nosey around and came up with a bit of potting info Clicky

If it was me, I'd just top it back up with GRP type resin

Thanks Tomb. I will look into getting it done! Looked for a set of second hand ones but think they were off a CB900. Didn't say OKI MPS-200 on them so didnt buy.
