CB750 K7 question
« on: May 07, 2012, 10:21:41 AM »
I'm putting a K3 together, but using a few bits off other models to use up what I have lying around to save a few pence. The clutch lever I've just refurbished came from a K7 and has a switch with a couple of wires coming from it. What is that for?  Please don't tell me that the H&S zealots have included an indicator light to tell you that you have pulled the clutch in.

Thanks
Eric

Hi.  It's a cut out switch to prevent you starting the bike in gear without the clutch pulled in.  If you go to cmsnl.com you can compare the part numbers for each bike and see which bits are common to both bikes.  Cheers. Phil

Like Phil sez on the later bikes either the neutral light had to be on or the clutch lever pulled in, just remove it or leave it disconnected

Thanks gentlemen. Seems the K3 has the same setup on the handlebar switch as the K7 judging by the parts fiche, though there maybe differences in the switches (different part numbers). Does the K3 have the lights on all the time like the K7 ?

I seem to recall that the K3/K4/K5 were NOT sold in the U.K., we kept the K2 until the K6 was launched ;D

Come to that was the K7 ever sold in the UK? I seem to recall when I went to my local Honda dealer in 1976 to get a 750 the only choice I had was which colour F1 I wanted, I recall the F1 giving way to the F2 but don't seem to recall any F7s. So did it go K6, F1, F2 only in UK?

No, the K7 was sold in the U.K.  Honda launched the F1, but customers still wanted the option of a four pipe tourer, hence the K6. The K7 was launched alongside the F2, the F2 with the black engine, and slightly more powerful than the F1, and broke a lot quicker :'( The K7 had the F1 engine, but with F2 type carbs with accelerator pumps, and exhausts that were unique to the K7 :o

You learn something new every day! I thought the K7 had the F2 motor too, guess I was misled by the carbs. Not seen many around then or now so I guess the F2 was more popular due to the higher power?

Probably more to do with the big discounts Honda were offering on unsold K6 models ;D Plus some people found the 17 inch rear wheel on the K7 seriously limited tyre choice at the time :o

Buggered if I was offered a discounted K6 at the time!! All told though think I will stick with the F1, it was the right choice for me then and now. Have to say I personally think the K7 is a looker though, love those pipes!

Got to agree with you there, wouldn't part with my F1 at any price, they look the business, like they're doing 120m.p.h. even when stationary! ;D
