New member says Hi
« on: June 15, 2012, 09:54:55 AM »
Greetings from Northamptonshire.
I'm just about to collect a CB500; It's registered 1975, in brown and mostly original apart from the pipes. Some cosmetic work required but it's a runner (it says here!). I've wanted one ever since I started biking back in the 70s so I'm looking forward to getting to grips with its wrinkles and foibles and will be unashamedly picking brains here to help me do it!
Thanks in advance, Pete

Thanks for the welcome. Here's a pic of the new addition complete with puncture, leaky No 4 carb and (as I found out tonight) broken clutch pushrod. Apart from that, it's perfect.  ;)

Very nice.  I had a leaking carb on mine.  I took off the float bowl and found that the float height was correct and the needle valve worked when I pushed the float up with my finger.  Mysterious; on closer inspection it turned out that the brass tube which comes up from the overflow pipe had a tiny crack in it and this was the cause of the leak.  A careful smear of araldite effected a perfect lasting cure.

Looks great, I'm a bit partial to the CB500/4, great for swinging round lanes.

Cheers

The bike's pretty photogenic - it has its tatty bits but the tank and side panel paintwork is really good. Just started the spending with new cables, levers, grips etc.
I've read threads here on the split overflow pipes and checked for that - I think the float height was wrong I've yet to hook them up to the tank again to check but I have my fingers crossed. I'm trying to keep my polimania in check but the sprocket cover does come up a treat . . .  8)

Polishing fetish. :)
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Set/sit. Bought/brought FFS. Bloody Americans.

There are recognisable signs which identify sufferers; shiny black fingernails on one hand and a black line running up the nose on to the forehead.
