Handlebar switches
« on: July 03, 2012, 09:29:18 PM »
They're cosmetically challenged. What's the original finish? Anodised, powder coated? What should I do to restore them, bearing in mind that I intend to ride it?!

Also, the additional light switch on the left. That's an addition, surely? I would have expected the right hand one to have an off position (for the UK market, at least.)
What's the expert view?

I think they were anodised but I've made do with a satin black aerosol.
That switch does look familiar but not from my 550.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Set/sit. Bought/brought FFS. Bloody Americans.

I believe the switches were anodised when new, I just airbrushed mine with Humbrol gloss black model paint, I think that they look fine, but I used red for the lettering instead of orange.
It may not be true but I think the separate switch was a added as a mod for UK bikes as there was no requirement for daylight running lights.

Thanks for the collected wisdom. Thankfully, the little switch works so that's a minor win. The label is peeling off but that's fixable.
Has anyone re-anodised their switches? Obviously they'll need their giblets stripping out (the switches, not the owners, that is) but would they need to be rubbed down first to get an even colour finish?
