Lap/skim face of cylinderhead

CB550K3:
I want to just 'refresh' the surface of the cylinderhead on the gasket face, by just having the head lapped, say a "couple of tenths".
That should be ok to do that without loosing valve-piston clearance, shouldn't it?
- any thoughts?

You're worried about a couple of tenths? of a thou?

Do you check the thicknesses of your head and base gaskets? they could easily be that far different too.

And your head will likely be that far out of flat, so are you going to get it skimmed, which will be more off in some places than others.

If you want to clean the gasket face a bit, use a piece of 180 wet + dry wrapped around a decent wood block using a criss cross pattern, that will clean it and give it a rough enough face to bite into the joint/gasket.

If you're ever worried about head to piston clearance drop your head on loose without the head gasket and turn the engine over, if the pistons don't lift the head a little you know you've at least got head gasket thickness clearance.
