A previous owner has had the rear hub and shoe holder chromed, it's pretty nasty in my opinion.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience of removing the chrome. Presumably a plater would be able to strip it, but I was looking for an easy way of doing it myself.

The wheel currently has a 17 inch rim so will have to be rebuilt at some point in any case.

probably easier and cheaper to get another wheel complete mate

Ride it over a winter as chromed alloy peels off really quick once salt water gets under it. Had a chromed cover on my master cylinder once. Didn't stay chromed long after a winters use.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

Doesn't proper chroming first require multiple steps of galvanic copper coating, polishing, coating, etc... before getting the actual chrome layer/s on?

There is a small spot of oxidisation on the shoe carrier but I can't see any copper underneath.

Bryan you are no doubt right about the cost, but rear wheels don't seem to come up very often, so I may have to reuse this one.

I was hoping worst case would be some sort of blasting.

Maybe I'll flick road grit at it and leave it out over winter.
