Exhaust rechroming
« on: October 08, 2012, 10:11:19 AM »
Hi

Has anybody sent away a set of exhausts for rechroming? What do you do about the insides of the exhaust? The baffles and packing and stuff...

Cheers

Apparently it can't be done as the tanks destroy the insides of the silencer! I have been looking at mine and there seems to be a pot rivet at the back. I was wondering if I drilled this out would the baffles et al come out???

Hi you can get exhaust rechromed and it doesn't make the exhaust rot, you would probably have to take the baffles out,

do you have anyone that does rechroming near you? i'm not sure were you are as it doesn't say in your profile?, you could have aword with them?,

you may find that a lot of chromers won't do exhausts as it dirtys there tanks, i know of a chromer that does do exhausts,

myelf and some mates own Suzuki GT750 Kettles, 2 strokes with dirty oily exhausts well this fella rechromes these sort of exhausts no problem,

Hi

Kettles I had one of those back in my youth and the smaller GT550 as well!!! Wish I had never sold it seeing the price they fetch these days!

I am located in South Birmingham. I have found these guys - http://rechroming.co.uk/default.htm but I have yet to approach them and see what they say!

I would be interested in your contact but I may be able to disassemble mine if the baffles and stuff are only held in by pot rivets! But I could do with someone who knows if they can be dismantled or not speaking up!!!

Cheers

John

John

I've heard these people will do downpipes: http://www.marquerestore.co.uk/

Haven't used them myself because I am still procrastinating on my exhaust solution but I have a sound set of 400F ones I could get done. PM me and I can give you some more background.

As for silencers, no idea. Surely these are made into one piece and the baffles are not removable? Not sure if they could be chromed. Here's a nice video of what a 500F silencer looks like inside btw .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2W68pThPCc

Fascinating. Who'd have thought that the insides were so primitive. I wonder if they did gas flow analysis in the early 70's? Maybe they just bunged in bits of baffle until it sounded right!
