Picture of electrics for 400 four
« on: December 23, 2012, 01:07:46 PM »
Hi All.
I am in the process of reassembling a 400 four for a friend. It was stripped out fully and came with a new wiring harness. I did not strip the bike, so wondered if anyone could post a picture of the arrangement for the electrics under the left hand side panel. I think it is right, but would like confirmation.
Cheers

Seamus

Thanks Tom. Just needed to see how the cables flowed, also which way up the fuse box went.
Thanks for the picture.
Merry Christmas

Hi all / Tom?
Also rewiring my 400F, which has been 'got at' in the past, evidenced by some very 'non-standard' loom modifications...
Tom, too rude to ask for a couple of photos (L + R) in the coils area; specifically I'm looking for the loom runs up under the tank, ... there's a 90 degree fancy bracket thing, and also a small rubber tie-down. (like the battery hold-down but smaller) - I need to know exactly which wires & routing they're for.

As an aside took off the carbs yesterday....saw the thread on air box / manifold etc removals - how bloody frustrating! Can't wait to put them back. Not.
Happy New year,
Lobo.

Please note that the UK flasher relay looks different to the one in the picture.

Fantastic - thanks sweetpeauk.

Have original Honda Dealer 'uncrating / build' instructions for the 400F, detailing to check loom routings, but (B & W) pics all too dark / unhelpful.

Cheers again.

Lobo - I think those Honda manual diagrams are way better than home-brew photos but if you still need something let me know.

sweetpeauk -  I've not spent much time looking for one but do you have a soft-copy genuine manual or a link?

...thanks guys, specifically I'm unsure of which wires are the 'Switch Housing Wires' - horn / coil feeds? As always it seems, no where near my bike & working from memory / pictures,
Cheers.

I think this means the wiring from the L/R switch gear that comes out of the handlebars but I'll check tonight

So the wiring from inside the handlebars from both L and R goes round to the rhs then up and over the spine, round that 90 degree bracket thing and into a bell-shaped plastic cover from the rear. The whole shebang is retained by the short "battery strap".

The bundle from the headlamp bowl passes the head stock on the lhs. In the pictures one of my switch gear set is not in the bracket and the strap is not currently fitted.

Your switch gear wiring is routed incorrectly Lobo...

Thanks Tom, if you could leave your 'bike permanently in pieces as an ongoing reference for me ..(!)
And if ever an understatement my wiring incorrect... It amazes me just what folk will bodge / put up with - its all in a pretty awful state. Would have never guessed it was the handlebar switchgear routed up & over the spine.

Another question (Tom?) as Parts diagram not conclusive - is my clutch cable (my pic #2 above) routing (anchor grommet) in the right place?

All very much appreciated,
Lobo

Mine is under the next bolt in a clockwise direction (where your throttle cables are sitting). My engine has not been apart so unless there was any "natural variation" that is where it should be. Having it there would keep it in more of a straight line and against the frame from its run behind that retaining hook, but again I'll have a look tonight. Its also the other way up, with the "flat" side of the bracket to the bottom.

In case you are wondering, this is not from memory - I have a picture on my laptop that shows it but I'll do a close-up for you.

Here you go - continuing the photo catalog of my bike (!)

Guess the first pic showing the routing between the speedo and idiot lights is a bit superfluous... just around the head stock to the rhs and behind that hook under the horn bolts. Through the grommet which when positioned properly holds the cable off the engine.
