Oil leak
« on: February 02, 2013, 08:22:12 PM »
just got the 250 G5 running smooth not bad for 38 year old. went down the garage and back about a mile or so. when i left it on the side stand for ten mins I notice a little oil weeping from I think the head gasket. I replaced the oil seals on the rear bolt channels but they were not Honda parts, the gasket set came with the bits.

I do not fancy stripping the head and barrels of again. so what l am thinking. book the MOT and ride the 10 miles there and check helpfully it will pass then ride home and re evaluate.

Why not re-check the head bolts torque, sometimes you will find a little tightening if needed will cure it. DO NOT exceed the recommended torque settings though!
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

rode it around for 10-15 mins and crap still some oil weeping not a huge amount but enough to cause it to smoke when it gets hot.
bugger
I am still going to MOT it this Friday and then apply for the V5. when i get the log book i will re bore (i have a pair of +1.00 pistons NOS)
I will get a Honda gasket and new seals for the oil ways and try again.
Billy
p.s Bryanj do you know any good place that will re bore in Gloucester?
Thanks
Billy

drove to the MOT today it was great. passed no trouble at all. the only pain is with the inline fuel filters fitted it seems to cause starvation. has anyone here tried the tank lining stuff?

a happy Billy
Thanks

Nice one Billy.Regarding fuel filter I have never had trouble with them perhaps I am lucky. Is the breather hole in your tank cap clear? If your filter is a clear type can you see the fuel flowing?Try lifting the cap just up from closed and see if that helps if it does the hole is blocked.
All the best

Took the plunge and ordered POR - 15 £45 then I will not need extra filters, just a nice new one in the tap bowl.

happy now, also the oil leak seems to have gone away. did 30 miles today no sign of it.

Not bad a....seems like it's all going in the right direction at least, and you're ready well ahead of the summer!

Hopefully with just a few more bits and pieces done then you'll have it as a nice reliable runner to enjoy.

went to the DVLA in worcester this morning to apply for a log book. what a pain, i have to take my bike on a trailer for them to inspect. i showed my Honda owners club authenticity letter but was told they still have to see it to inspect it.

now I have to wait up to six weeks for an appointment.

Now if you had had a Honda UK letter they would not have had to inspect it. If you want to borrow a proper bike recovery trailer for a small fee let me know
