Insurance
« on: March 12, 2013, 07:30:02 AM »
Nice weather huh? could get bike out of garage if I wanted to, and I am in the 'warm south'!

Anyhow, my insurance is due, am currently with the inevitable Carole Nash and they charged me £125 last year, which I though OK (ish) as I had no no claims. This year they want to charge me exactly the same. When I called them they told me their 'Classic' insurance doesn't have no claims discount! ( nice of them to tell me before ) the nice lady told me all policies I would be able to get would be the same, but then she would wouldn't she.

So before I start asking various members of the african rodent population etc etc, who are you guys with? and does anyone get a no claims discount?

I got two 500's on one policy with Nash for £122. don't think i could get it cheaper and I do believe they are right in that unless you are qith one of the real pricey firms you won't get NCD on a bike policy. Only thing that does make my blood boil is that they nag you by phone and text when renewal date is due

I've done quite a lot of investigation recently. It seems to me that classic insurance doesn't come with NCB, since you are only using them on high days and holidays. For example commuting can be excluded - perhaps not something insurers expect you to do on a classic.

I say this because I'm insuring a VFR750 (18 yrs old) and a CB400F (35 yrs old) so sometimes the VFR is a classic, sometimes it is not. Hence I perceive these differences between classic and everyday insurance.

Try http://www.lynbrookins.co.uk/
They are my cheapest so far TPFT is £97 *but* limited to 3k miles per year per bike.

Carole Nash were the most expensive. 200+ TPFT. Footman James 180 fully comp (no TPTF available) reduced from 213 with HOC membership.

I think I might go for Lynbrook for 1 year. I have no recent (bike) history, which makes it more difficult.

Hmm, beginning to look like I am stuck with Nash! its just galling when you think you are being ripped off!

Will try Lynbrook, but if its £90 for TPF&T my £125 for fully comp is looking good. Have tried the usual comparison sites and they don't list sohc CB750s at all. Tried 'Be wiser' who just quoted £161 fully comp so its not looking good.

As a matter of interest although its a Classic insurance I AM covered for commuting as I do use my F1 for that.

OK LynBrook want £121 so basically the same price. Again no NCD which is galling, don't understand that at all. So for £4 I may as well stay with Nash.

Have tried other sites this morning and they all see to think my bike is a VT700 Shadow ?!?!?! so I have run out of patience and options!

It's a frustrating business. Comparison sites are only for the mainstream buyer and the internet in general is not always geared up for multiple bikes.

I went to the major classic providers and used their websites. Sometimes you get a call back, which is good because you can go through the details the web proposal doesn't include, but then you get disappointed.

It sounds like CN is ok for you Waggles, but not so for a new starter like me and the VFR is too young for them. In fairness their rep tried hard to find something for me while on the phone but in the end we agreed they are not for me. All that advertising doesn't come cheap I'm sure.

I'm with Lynbrook http://www.lynbrookins.co.uk/90285/info.php?p=5 for my Exup1000 & for £54 I get classic cover including breakdown/recovery on a limited mileage agreement of 1500 pa. Suits me as I have three other bikes on the road at the same time.

Thanks Guys but I do more than 1500 miles. eBike quoted me £154 and oddly this is with the same insurance company I am with via Nash?!? maybe its the wonderful area I live in or lack of no claims that makes mine higher, who knows?

The Nash premium is a good one its just this lack of NCD that bugs me, perhaps I should just claim every year ;)  only kidding Carole  ;D

I don't even want to mention how much I'm paying. I'm insured for 10,000 miles per year, not stored in a garage (won't give me fully comp because of this), commuter vehicle, in my early 20's, only had a license for a couple of years. Suffice to say I'm paying 4-5 time what a lot of you are... I should get a cub90.

Cub 90s are a bit pricey due to the enhanced performance, stick to a 50!

Seriously tho, I sympathise, been there, paid that and have more than 1 t shirt. Us wrinklies gotta have SOME advantage due to getting old tho otherwise its all negative!
