First thoughts on my Goldwing

Well my new (to me) GoldWing arrived today via BLD after its purchase unseen from EBAY. Not quite as good as I hoped, but pretty original to 1975 It needs a bit of work but is roadworthy, taxed and tested. I took it for a ride, it was my first time on a wing and on the whole I liked it, the weight is no problem when riding as it is low down, with big wide bars its like steering the Titanic! Only thing is I can't get it on the centre stand, will have to do some body-building!! My 500 seems small now! All in all I am a happy bunny.

There is a "Knack" to the centre stand, put all your leg and body weight onto the pad of the stand whilst lifting and rolling back the grab handle.----at least thats how i remember it being

I have had a couple of rides now and like the comfort and the power, will need a new rear tyre which is a 4.50 x 17 size, not sure what brand to go for, I might join a wing forum for advice. Not sure of the long term plans for this bike, to restore or sell or keep as is and ride. For a change I have 2 bikes on the road for the summer! Oddjob, if you have any spares that would fit my model I would be interested, PM me with details. PS I still haven't got it on the stand despite looking at videos on youtube!

It happens to us all at some time or other.
If the bike stands with the back wheel off the floor when it's on the stand.
My tip is - a small (3"x3" x 1/2") flat piece of wood, run the back wheel on to it. Then put the bike on the stand. Under the front wheel if it's the front wheel off the ground.
Remove the piece of wood. Experiment with different thicknesses of wood till you get it right and carry the wood in an outside pocket.
You won't believe the difference it makes.

I did use a bit of wood to get it on the stand so I could remove the rear wheel to replace the worn tyre. Since refitting the wheel I am able to get it on the stand without the wood, maybe because it stands a bit higher, or possibly I now have the knack! Next on the list to do is try to get the scarily bad brakes to work better!
