tank decals

can any body tell me if the tank decal stripes and the warning stickers on 1970s hondas were laquered over as original from the factory. or is this just something that has become the thing to do as bikes have been getting restored over the years ?  thanks garry.

Hi, the stripes on my (that I think is original) tank certainly appear to be laquered, as does the sticker on the chainguard.  My plan for restoring was to soda blast the tank back to bare metal, repaint, apply stripes and then laquer. As for the chain guard it will have to do without the sticker as im having it powder coated and they are hard to source although Eric mentioned in that you can buy reproductions in Canada if youre getting really serious!  Cheers, Jamie
