seat tail piece trim
« on: July 02, 2013, 06:30:24 PM »
Hi, Firstly, thanku for all the help given so far on my CB750F1 build, I know I will need allot more help in the near future, but I am now after the plastic chrome trim that goes around the tailpiece. does anyone know where this can be brought from? I have the metal clips, but the plastic has a crack and the spare has lost its zing
Thanks
John

You need to search one of the one line parts lists for the part number then see if a supplier has it lis Dave Silver or CMSNL

Think you may have to restore its Zing! Not sure whether you mean the long strip under the seat / tail unit or the one around the rear light? doesn't make a lot of difference tho as I am afraid a lot of F1 specific parts are no longer available, those trim strips included according to CMSNL. I also found the chrome grabrail under the seat to be unobtainium too.

My only suggestion is to look around auto restorers ( Like Frosts perhaps? ) who may have some generic strip that is similar and could be used. If all else fails I am sure you could find some edge strip to cover the raw edge.

If Waggles is correct, and i have no reason to doubt him, try the old Mini chrome plastic edging trim from the welded seams, used to buy it in rolls but immers in as water as hot as you can take to get it flexible enough

Thanks all, it was the trim on the tail around the rear light, I will try and play the cracked one first and see what result I get before I go onto the `lost zing one`
Many thanks for your help

Good luck. That particular trim being plain 'chrome' would be a prime candidate for replacement by the old mini plastic strip Bryan suggested. It may be a bit wide but with a bit of trimming should do the job

also look at windscreen trim for fairings, available in smaller lengths I used it for my tank edge.
Love the 500 and 550 have a 500 called Lazarus under restoration
