« on: August 06, 2013, 12:50:55 PM »
Hi,
Just managed to get the power back to the project and started sorting the wiring out.
Quick question when I turn the ignition on, the front parking light and the rear light come ON is this normal on the model and year !!

not unless the light switch is on or you have turned the key and extra click in which case the lights come on to park with ignition off

It comes on as soon as the ignition is turned on irrespective of the light switch being ON.

If it comes on with the ignition you need to test the ignition switch electrical with reference to wiring diagram, or you have wires connected wrong in headlamp shell/ connector box

there should be a brown wire on the back of headlight.  on the park light    that goes into a single brown wire that comes into headlight bucket from the main loom.

brown  wire  is park light

brown/blue  is indicator buzzer  if you have one

brown/white  is  clock lights

all these are ones that are from the main loom  for headlight bucket  and idiot lights etc

Random thought - is your wiring a spec for one of those countries where it's mandatory for your lights to be on, you know, some scandinavian place or the like?

Diagrams are all the same, we just don't use some connections in the UK.
Is this a replacement ignition switch by any chance?

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Set/sit. Bought/brought FFS. Bloody Americans.

The ignition switch has a steering lock on it as well.
I think I am going to try the switch from my 400 4 and see if the problem still persists.

my ignition is a replacement  from Silvers  with steering lock on it  and it works fine.  my wiring harness and all electrics  are from Canada.   the wiring is still the same    except they use running lights on the indicators  ( they stay lit)   everything else is the same.

mind you this was the second switch from silvers   the first one was faulty.

It seems as though I have acquired a US spec wiring loom (**** EbaY)
The US one has running lights ON as soon as the ignition is turned on, front running light, rear light and all clock lights are ON.
Can this be changed to the UK spec !!!
Going to try and find a US wiring diagram and compare them.
Any help appreciated.

Paul, the loom is the same it's the switches that are different. You need to use a multimeter on the ignition and r/h switches to check out what is happening. When I get home on the 19th I will look at all my wiring diagrams and see if I can find the appropriate one(s) for you
