master cylinder clip removal tool
« on: September 10, 2013, 11:07:47 AM »
I read the different threads on here about stripping the front  master cylinder, my bike is a CB750 K6 but this will help most if not all.

I bent a piece of old round bar to about 80 degrees and when you push the piston down place this in where the lever goes and put the bolt bak in and it will hold the piston down allowing you more room to see and grasp that pesky cir clip

the close up of the thing in place

i ran v hot water over for several mins (in her in doors sink ;-))

the cir clip came out much easier than i thought.

and i used std straight cir clip pliers.

Billy

Thanks
Billy

Hi Billy,
Many thanks for that wonderful tip - I have struggled with that problem on many Honda master cylinders over the years and will now make a tool like the one in your pic for next time.  I even put a bit on my website some time ago about the frustration of these pesky circlips.  Perhaps your tip should be put here permanently by the Moderator?  If you give me permission, I will put a little piece on my site with your solution and a link to this post too.

Thanks again - you've made an old man very happy!
