CB400 Clutch removal - is there a lazy way?!
« on: September 23, 2013, 04:04:13 PM »
Ok, I'm getting bored of draining oil, fiddling with clutch parts, straining / refilling oil etc etc. So my basic question... can I simply lay the bike over a significant amount to save me draining the oil whilst I access the clutch basket? If so, any tips how to do this safely to a now pristine bike?

Cheers,
Simon.

Laying it on it's side has been a fairly common thing to do in the past, usually when bikes are raced and time pressure to fix it was against you.

Obvious precautions are, wet battery? remove it, and brake master cylinder......should be ok but wrap it with something absorbant as a precaution.........check for fuel level or remove tank.

Easiest thing to lay a bike of without marking is thick polystyrene or those foil building insulation panels.....you may be able to get it to about 45deg and find that's enough to keep the oil lower than the gasket face when it's open.
