speedo tacho
« on: September 25, 2013, 07:37:54 PM »
Hi Guys,
Got an old tacho and decided to have a go at it myself. It works well but the needle jumps about a bit.Managed to separate without crapping the ring but just wondered how the needle comes off and at early stages where to oil and what oil etc. Am I right in thinking the needle should just pull off?I know the USA site has had big discussions with this but I do find it a bit overpowering,Any advice welcome.
Cheers

Hi Bitsa,

Give the missus 50p / centimes & send her out to the flicks...

Get 2 of her best teaspoons, and put them opposite sides under the head of the needle, and gently pry the needle up. It'll come with a ping... but all should be well. Recently restored 4 instruments this way, no hiccups.

As for servicing the dashpots .... I guess drop kent400 a line.

Or try here, tho' I'm having probs accessing this site from Brunei @ the mo...

I personally never tackled these, but rather cautiously cleaned up what I could with ear bud / brake cleaning spray & then lubed the obvious bits with sewing machine oil. Happy so far..

Good luck.
