77 K3 PISTON RING SET
« on: October 15, 2013, 08:38:26 AM »
Hi,
Just starting the rebuild of a spare engine which I bought last week, this is turning out to be a bit of a bargain.
It has had a recent rebuild and re bore with new cam chain guide and tension er.
I don't know how many miles it has covered since the re-bore so going to re ring it.
Been on silvers but not a stock item, there is a set on eBay but it states not suitable for a K3 model, does anyone know the difference between the models.

I have measured the end gap on the rings in the bore and it is .25mm the manual stares .15-.35 so bang in the middle, the boars are still showing slight marks from the re-bore or honing.
should I just give it a light honing and stick with the rings that I have !!

Help please.

Brian,

Thanks, I managed to pick a set of original Honda rings up last night on Ebay so going to re ring it as well.
Thanks for the info did not want to put the thing back together and waste a gasket set.
The engine is turning out to be a bit of a gem did not pay much for it, when I have stripped it down it has been re-bored with new pistons, cam chin tension-er, cam chain guide and cam chain.

Oddjob,

Thanks for the info. I did intend to do just that.
I bought the engine because of the starter clutch problem with the original one and intended to use it to practice on. To be honest the starter clutch fix is so easy no need to practice but it has turned out to be a bargain and will probably use it.
