front mudguard fit
« on: December 01, 2013, 11:48:37 AM »
Hi all the 500/4 rebuild has stalled a bit due to no time or money but I did spend a bit of time the other day trying to fit the front mudguard. Problem is it is one I bought from ebay, in very good condition but seems to be slightly too big. Mountings fit fine to the forks but there seems to be a big gap between the tyre and mudguard, so much so I thought the front wheel or tyre was too small but its the same with a spare wheel I have. I could file the mounting holes to modify but don't realy want to, could it be a 750 item, I thought they were interchangeable.

I thought both 500 and 750 used 3.25 X 19

I have about 12mm side gap at max tyre width,

what tyre have you ?

Its fine width wise its the height above the tyre that's the issue. tyre is 325/19 as standard. When I look from the side I can see the top of the tyre and a gap under the mudguard, have got a pic but not able to post it.

cant tell for sure from photo but yours does seem to be similar to mine, I am sure my old one hugged the tyre more closely.

Here's my 550 to compare. Tyre is 100/90x19

You probably CAN see daylight through yours, Lester's 100/90 front tyre is roughly equivalent to 4.00/4.10 in old money, so is a bigger tyre ;D
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

Is that an original mudguard? Why no stays?
