New member Derby
« on: January 31, 2014, 06:39:17 PM »
Hello, I'm building a CR750 replica (well look alike at least) so joining the forum seemed a good idea, apologies to any purists but the K7 that I am using as a base had sat in a garage with a leaking roof since 1995 and was beyond economical restoration, look forward to speaking to you, cheers Mark.

Welcome Mark, it would of been cheaper to fix a leaking roof than to restore a 750K. Enjoy.

Welcome Mark.
I've never seen a CB with a roof never mind a leaking one.   :P
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Set/sit. Bought/brought FFS. Bloody Americans.

Welcome mark - look forward to hearing about your project. I've been assembling parts to do the same for a while now - so will watch with interest. James.

Hi James, I'll post some photos in the next few weeks when it starts going back together, so far frame modded/powdercoated, engine back in, no major work done, I'm putting it on the road so it's basically a stock K7 engine, (I have another engine that I will eventually fit once I've put the big bore kit on it, removed the generator, done cam etc etc), I am currently doing the twin disc conversion and fitting rear sets, my target is end of May so that I can take it to the TT.

When I first got the bike home I did briefly think of restoring it, when I saw the cost of an exhaust system I soon changed my mind!, actually would have been cheaper to build an entire garage  :o

That's right, racing lines, I also remember seeing your mint Honda Britain on the way to Matlock, I trust it's safely tucked up for the winter?

Thanks Mick, will do in a few weeks , not much to see at present, engine in, oil tank in (used the original oil tank mounted transversely, looks quite convincing as a period part but I will fit a CR replica when funds allow), I have the fuel tank and seat unit but not fitted yet cheers Mark.

Cheers Pete, just got stuck for the first time actually!, I plumbed in the oil tank, re-fitted carbs and exhaust, slaved a battery and original fuel tank today and went for a start......but it didn't !, getting a spark but the plugs don't seem to be getting wet so I suspect it's a fuelling issue, last time I started the engine was 5 months ago and I didn't re-clean the carb internals before re-fitting the carbs today  ::), now run out of time/daylight/skill so it will have to be tomorrow now.

Up and running now, I hadn't appreciated how much it needed the airbox fitted to start!, I will be re-jetting for velocity stacks soon so if anyone needs a K7 airbox let me know. Off out on XJR now to celebrate  ;D
