my latest problem

going  to fit the rear guard and notice powdercoaters have just powdercoated over the bolts that hold the rear guard on

stuck in their fast... no problem  just remove the bolts and use new ones


well no there stuck fast... contacted powdercoaters and they dont want to know

so any tips to remove the bolts out of rear mudguard ?

Hi,

I had the same problem so I used a Stanley blade to carefully cut around the bolt then carefully back out the bolt I think this helps because if you just back off the bolt the PC will crack,

I don't bother any more with plugging the holes with old bolts I just tap the holes out afterwards ,

Problem i have they have powdercaote the bolt as well, went to try and remove and one bolt part of it sheared off, its like its set rock hard and now part of the guard... will put a pic up later to show

lesson is remove everything first..... would have thought they would have known this though

Are the bolts screwed fully home? If not try tightening them first.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Set/sit. Bought/brought FFS. Bloody Americans.

Imagine the head from underneath with  the thread sticking through with no nut on it, totally will not move

You can just about make out the bolts on rear guard , they have been powdercoated in from underneath and the top and they are well jammed in

If the thread sticks out underneath and has been coated you need to grind/cut off the thread that is showing then they may move

Aren't they welded in studs? They are on mine. Just take a die or thread file to them to clean the powder coat off the threads, cut round them with a stanly knife first to stop the power coat cracking away.

I think they are welded from underneath, both of the studs are cracked

they look like bolts with a flat head .( the flat head sits underneath) they are going to have to come off and replaced as they are totally shot, I can see a big crack going up both of them

would I get away with cutting the thread off drill out the rest and replace with bolt and nut ?

You would think so but they normally coat over any bearings,bolts and anything else that gets left in.
I did read somewhere that methanol removes powder coat Good luck
