Hi all
« on: February 11, 2014, 12:56:23 PM »
Hi everyone,
I've recently bought a '78 CB550k, well to be honest what I actually bought was a v5, a rolling chassis and 6 boxes of parts which make up the rest of the bike. So I'm sure I'll be logging in regularly for your advice to get it back in one piece ;) I intend to make it in to a road legal version of my avatar pic, an RC181. It will be an inspired copy not a full blown replica, unless I win the lottery  :-\ :D It won't be a quick job as I have quite a few things I still need to finish apart from the bikes I've got a '87 mini 1000 which needs some welding...obviously  ::) and a vw t4 which needs the rear fitting out.
 Regards
 Stu  :)

Hi, in misc boxes can be a good way to buy a bike, means if anything goes wrong you'll have a good idea of how to fix it. Sounds like you have a few projects. I have a few Landrovers and other bikes as well as the sohc Hondas. The 500/4 is my favourite bike (pretty well same as 550 until you try interchanging parts. My first big bikes were a pair of 550 k3's the first was in a load of boxes with 3 blown engines, the second was t&t but a rolling wreck with a shot oil leaking engine and warped brakes, those 2 bikes tought me a lot.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

Welcome Stu, that's going to be a great project!, I'm about half way through my CR750 build, your right about the expense :o, it hurts at times!, but it's got to be better than wasting the money on weird hobbies like fishing or football or other such bizarre passtimes :)
