My Tiger 1050 had a lightweight Renthal alloy rear sprocket fitted when I bought it. Their marketing says "designed for road use - will last as long as steel".

Nope.

This is after 15k miles. The fitter who changed it said "why have you got a racing sprocket on the rear - they wear really quickly you know"...

When skint I ran my 500/4 chain that bad on the rear sprockett -  went from like the gold alloy one above to toothless in very few miles, and I had to knock a few links out too, glad I now have a proper contract rather than a 0 hours one as I did then. One thing I love about the sohc in line 4's is how smooth they are and how little stress this in turn places on chains - despite the abuse of knocking a link out of a worn chain, I've never had one fail, on my 125 and 250, they have both snapped chains well before it reaches the adjusters end or the sprocketts looked badly hooked.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock
