piston
« on: March 24, 2014, 08:01:04 PM »
I am trying to help an elderly neighbour get his cyclemotor going again. It is a Bernardi  engine that bolts onto bicycle driving the back wheel. It was not pulling so he asked me as I have bikes to have a look at it. I found the two piston rings broken and Have been looking for 2 or for a piston and rings. The Piston Dia is 34mm. The Engine is a BERNARDI made in Italy European Patent 82830113 5.
I would appreciate any help in locating parts. I would like to get the Old Boy Mobile again as I miss seeing him potter around on it. You were likely to see him anywhere on it

Give Barry a bell at T&L Engineering in Bedford. He has more cross references than me.

Hi,
Try matching the piston/barrel port cutaways  before you build it up by sliding the piston into the cylinder, any transfer ports should be in line with each other----ken

Many two-smoke pistons have the ring's end gap pegged so that they pass up and down on a part of the barrel that has no ports in it i.e. solid wall.

if looking down on the piston/barrel top with exhaust pointing away from you, then the rings are often pegged at about 7o'clock and 5o'clock positions on a conventional two stroke setup.

If you fit the piston opposite to this, then the ring ends drop into the exhaust port and snap them when turned over....a fairly common cock-up.

Put a felt pen mark on the piston top to align with the ring pegs and put the barrel on WITHOUT the rings, and gently turn it over to see if the marks line up with the right part of the barrel and miss all the ports.....Bob's your uncle.....hopefully
