CB500KO Colour ?
« on: May 11, 2014, 01:01:07 PM »
I am trying to find out what CB500 had the colour Black/black on the tank. The colour list i have states for the KO is; Candy jet green + black, Garnet brown + black and Star light gold + black. I have looked up the colours for the K1 and K2 but, can't find a mention of Black + black.
Anyone know what 500K had Black + black.

I can't recall a K0 with a black tank.
Mine, a CB500K2 '76 [ED,F,G] with the newer striping is Excel Black (NH-57). Does this help?

Like you, I can't find reference to the black colour scheme, however I can confirm that Honda used a black bike for the main photo on the CB500 page in the 1975 UK brochure.

Also, my own bike was originally black, and that was made in August '74 and registered in the UK in early '75.

Cheers lads, all the info points to K2 at the moment. The colour on the V5 is gold + black but the star light gold was not a nice colour. The point in this is i know of a nos tank in black + black. Wondering if this would be a match.

Which K2? The CB500K2 [A] (marketed in 1973) or the CB500K2 [ED,F,G] (marketed in 1976)?

Delta, have been sent a picture from Germany of a black K2 1976 which the fourm member has had from new. waiting for info from the states. Not sure if it was down to the country with the colours. Have also sent Honda a mail to see what they have on record.

The US K2 had the old tank striping, like in the second picture I posted. The European K2 had the striping as shown on mine. The German 1976 will be like mine.

Still find it strange that honda do not list Black + black on any 500's. Never mind a KO.

Oddjob, I knew that remark would stir you up. Every Star light gold i have seen was faded, so not really sure what it looked like new. Maybe you could post a picture of the two golds together :)
Tell me if i am wrong here Bryan. The KO was the only one that came with the catch seat lock and the rest had the plunger type.

Trigger, in my cb500/cb500k1 parts book it lists a plain black tank part no 17500 323 000B for both k0 and k1, but specifies the black one not used in USA. I love the black, but also love the gold!
Love the 500 and 550 have a 500 called Lazarus under restoration

K0 had the hook latch and different patten seat squares, also smaller yellow reflectors on headlamp brackets, clock brackets and chrome backs like all the UK ones, different fork internals and if VERY early slightly different shape crancases
