hi to all,from sunny bucks, just a short intro, i have been riding motorcycles since i was sixteen, and less than half my weight! ho-hum,started from a moped,on to a honda c100/c102 eletric start fantastic in its day, triumph thunderbird 650cc with double adult sidecar, cd175,sloper,etc,up to present day a honda cb400f-2,unrestored,and low mileage,cant be many like that today!im needing some help with trying to keep her in good nick, is there an upgrade to the front disc/pads, as im not sure if its as good as can be?, and whats the best in oils-engine/brake fluid, and tyres which are good in the rain,as ive been off the bike in the past plenty of times in my teens,and those old bones dont like tarmac aftershave!. biking in my blood and thats where i would like to keep it, in my veins!! ho,p.s. im after a cb400f-rear luggage rack to buy, if you know anyone who has one to sell,please let me know. cheers honstan3.

Welcome and been there tarmac aftershave is a giggle we have a member called tarmac and when questioned his name was based on the same BRILL.

No upgreade to front brake I'm afraid, just make sure it's all free and working properly.

Engine oil--Tesco own brand 15W40 Diesel mineral oil, Brake fluid ordinary Dot 3

Tyres are a problem due to the odd sizes on the 400, Try Metzeler or Continental

hi, and many thanks your replys and advice, yes i think i will invest in a pair of metzeler tyres, they were good on the last but one bike i had,a cd175/1978 vintage, note to flyingscotsman3-about engine oil, are you sure to us tescos own brand DIESEL mineral oil, just checking?. i will try and get some pics on-line when we get a nice day!, on the subject of tarmac, back in my teens, i worked as a dispatch rider in centrol london, and over the years, got to taste the road surface at least two times a year, most offen in the wet, and a torist stepping off the pavement, and here we go again! the good old days, anyone remember PRIDE & CLARKE, (snide and shark )some called them! in stockwell road, south east london? used to go there with some mates,on a saturday, and drool over some of the bikes there ,and ended up at the nearby greecy spoon ,please excuse the mistooks!, keep on trucking, cheers. honstan3..

Bryanj - I'm using tesco oil but not diesel. I know you've recommended diesel before - likewise, why is that?

If you check the specs on the can against your handbook the diesel is nearest and has additives that help the gearbox

Like your Humour,should go well on this site.
My twin brother bought a cb500/4 from Pride and Clark in 1975 sold it a couple of years later and the owner still has it with over 100000 miles on it. Bit tatty now though.

Brianj,  is that serious regards the Diesel oil !!!

I love my 400 4 on my third restoration now and still like it the best flew through it's MOT at the weekend again.
