CB550 Progress
« on: June 08, 2014, 10:54:12 AM »
Making progress on the Cb550 I purchased a few weeks back. The previous owner had begun to Cafe race it and fitted clipons and small indicators and there were some carb running issues that needed sorting. So Carbs off stripped and cleaned with new rebuild kits fitted. Indicators and fork ears purchased just need to fit. have removed the Marshall deeptone exhaust and fitted a stainless Motad system which went surprisingly very easy indeed! New stainless Hagon shocks fitted. Just need to fit the carbs and set them up.
Here's a pic of the exhaust and shocks fitted. :)

Bars, rail, fork ears and mirrors fitted......indicators next...
have purchased cb500 mounts for the indicator stems and they don't fit ( the metal and rubber parts that fit in the grab rail ) anybody have any that will fit or need the  cb500 ones or want to swap. thought I'd ask before I try and make them fit ???

Ha exactly!

I used to have one on my old 400F. When out with mates at night (one on a Yamaha R3 and another on a CB250G5) I was always the one in front!!

maybe it is a 400 unit although it doesn't attach with 3 screws , it was on the bike fitted by the previous owner ? He was attempting to cafe race it after all and it did have some other 400 bits with it in a box. however I think it looks cool, I've gone for the larger indicators off the earlier k models as I like the way they look ;)

It looks as though you've got quite a bit done on it Yoda, at least it's got someone to look after it a bit now.

That was good spotting that light in the picture from that angle Tom, as the others are saying also, I thought that size was only supplied to fit the small 400/4 shell.

I've also got some Z180s from that era oddjob, they are a really good light to have on the front of a bike as well.

Didn't know the concave one was specific to the 400. Would like one for mine, if you do change your mind on keeping it, Yoda

I seem to recall the 400 only used the 2 bottom screws and it clipped into the shell at the top.

Correct

cheers for all the info guys  :)
it doesn't look out of place on the bike and I'm yet to try it out at night as still a few things to do to the bike, fit indicators, replace top cover gasket to stop a small oil  leak and to sort out the front brake / lack of it. It will also be getting  the tank repainted, same colour and graphics.
