Rear sets
« on: July 27, 2014, 12:53:15 PM »
I dragged the old 500 out last weekend.
And I was wondering if I could get a set of rear sets of off the shelf to fit......keeping in mind the strengthening brace on the swing arm?....it was a drag racing bike in a previous life ....and I guess it was there to stop any unwanted flexing

And just a note ...when I first got this bike on the road it felt quite an extreme riding position..but after getting my old tribsa sorted it positively feels like a touring machine ?????

You will probably have to fit a standard swing arm to use off the shelf(if still available) rearsets

They look the business....but like Bryan says I will probably need to put a standard swing arm back on....
I will drop an email over to them to see if I can get a picture of a set fitted to see exactly what I am up against....
That price doesn't actually seem to bad if they fit like they say and need no more engineering ...
Has anyone here got a set fitted I could have a picture???

here you go ... photo of tarozzi's from disco volante fitted. ... bearing in mind that I didnt use the standard mounting brackets or connecting rods. The standard tarozzi mounts use the main frame tubes rather than the rear passenger peg mounts and place the rearsets a lot more forward

.. and the whole bike. Bit of an issue with high speed front end wobblies to sort out.... preferably by finding someone who can manufacture a custom yoke set

Hi Ewan cheers for those pictures...
Just a quick one what happened to the original mounting brackets and connecting rods I'm guessing you got them in the kit,,,
I was wondering if they would still mount on the frame ....I don't have a LHS peg bracket on my bike anymore it was cut of before I got it so you method is out of the question.
But a very smart looking bike you have there ...I did read about your issues ....would it be an idea to try some shorter shocks on to see if it gives you any wobble relief

Just looking at the pics of our bikes?
They seem to have a similar stance but

You can see how much lower my rear end is (no jokes please )
I have no issues at higher speed in fact if anything it really settles when you give it some  Welly !
With the mods to the engine it really gets up a hustle up too

And just a question for Steve the mod!...I'm not getting notifications of replies to this thread ..is that and issue at the moment ..so I can only catch up if I keep logging on..not a great issue as I pop in pretty much every night it's just a nice to know

Ewan, that is more than 3 inch.

oh oki doki  ;) ... micrometer ooooot ..... shortest distance between electrisc tray and tyre when on side stand is 3.425 inch, when sitting up right without stands its 3.35 inch. For woodside .... got longer rear shocks which is causing the front end prob !  Need the longer shocks to restore clearance at back end. Still got the tarzzi brackets and rods ...

Ewan, I do know a chap wo can make custom yokes from billett ally. Malcolm Shepardson @ Malarkey engineering, Bishops castle, not seen him in years but did do 2 weeks work experience there when in collage, got paid in the formof a cb500 sohc chop project, thinking about it that was my first taste of honda bikes and was rapidly followed by a few more cb550 k3s as the chop had 3 engines but not 1 clutch.... slippery slope.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock
