« on: August 16, 2014, 10:25:54 AM »
changing this head of mine

is it simply a matter of cleaning up faces for the new gaskets ?

also valves after lapping in do the valves have to go back into same place from old head

Valves need to go in whichever hole they were lapped to. If moving valves from one head to another, they will need lapping to the new head :D :D
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

And just to add when the valves are lapped in fill the crowns with petrol to see if they leak.

If not job done.  :) :)

from what I can tell once you get a smooth ring on both faces your good to go ?

also does the part the valve slides into  need to come out ? original head has new stem seals

valve guides ?

Speaking of that I've found my original Honda CB500/4 valve guide reamer. Not seen it for ages and it was hiding in my Snap On box. As I doubt very much whether I'll ever use this again I may donate it to someone on the understanding they will lend it to whoever needs it.

   Oddjob,

it might be an idea to have a separate thread, "Special tools for loan"

the user pays postage ,and returns after use

perfect for smaller items

Hi,
The electric drill reference was being sarcastic, although I have known one to be used. Slow and steady and not too much pressure, lifting the valve off its seat for a 1/2 turn now and then during grinding is the only way!

Mick, in my spare time i do engines for the drag racing boys and we use them because the NOS gas and high temperature  makes the standard valves stick in the valve guides.
A K-Liner is a Bronze bullet valve guide. So if your valve guides are worn you can re-cut and put a bronze bush in.
